The state Commissioner of Police, Taiwo Lakanu, who briefed journalists in Owerri, the state capital, said that on October 20, following a distress call about a robbery at the house of the late Ahanonu, operatives of the command immediately swung into action.
Lakanu stated that it discovered that the deceased was kidnapped by the assailants and one Daniel Igwekama, of Ndugwu in Owerri-West council area, was arrested immediately.
The CP disclosed that in the cause of investigation, it was discovered that the victim had been in a protracted land dispute with the suspects, who are also his brothers.
He further said one Daniel Igwekama, of Ndugwu in Owerri West LGA was arrested immediately following the kidnap of the deceased by the suspects.
He said the victim’s corpse was later found on the disputed land located along Ndegwu Road.
CP Lakanu said the state police command had intensified efforts to arrest the fleeing suspects and all those involved in the case.
