Complexities of Van Gaal’s Man Utd contract revealed

Louis van Gaal: Quids in as contract clauses revealed

Louis van Gaal: Quids in as contract clauses revealed

Louis van Gaal will reportedly miss out on a huge bonus if he fails to deliver Champions League football – but may receive an even bigger one if he is sacked by Manchester United.

Speculation surrounding the future of the Dutchman has been constant, with rumours linking Jose Mourinho to the job at Old Trafford next season.

The Times reports however that in order to sack Van Gaal, the club would need to pay him around £5million.

In addition to this, they reveal clauses in his £8million annual package which includes a £400k bonus for an FA Cup win, with an additional £2m coming in loyalty payments, £1.6m for image rights and the remaining £1.1m a reward for ensuring United qualify for the Champions League.

The former Barcelona and Bayern boss has been in charge for 73 games at Old Trafford, winning just 37 and drawing 19, although he did manage to deliver a top-four finish last season.
Manchester United sit in fifth place in the Premier League, four points behind rivals Manchester City with a game in hand.

The 64-year-old re-iterated earlier in the month that he believes he will be manager of the Red Devils next season.
“I knew it would be like this. That’s why they hired me and we spoke about it. We always knew that the process would take three years. I wanted to sign only for two years.

“The club wanted me to sign for three years, not me. I signed for three years – so next year you will see me again” he was quotes as saying in the Guardian.

“Every week for six months I have been ‘sacked’ – and yet I am still here. But this has happened to me at every club I have been at.”

“I am a realistic man and so I only speak about facts. I can’t say again ‘if, if’. The facts count and the fact is we are in the FA Cup final, the fact is we were in the Champions League, that we didn’t do last year. The fact is we went further in the Capital One Cup and so on.”

Chelsea will give champions Leicester City a guard of honour at Stamford Bridge - Guus Hiddink

Image result for Guus Hiddink
Guus Hiddink has confirmed that Chelsea will welcome new Premier League champions Leicester City to Stamford Bridge next week by giving the Foxes a guard of honour at Stamford Bridge.
Leicester - managed by former Blues boss Claudio Ranieri - clinched their first league trophy in their 132-year history on Monday night after Chelsea's 2-2 draw with title chasers Tottenham ended Spurs' hopes of staying in the race.

Last season's champions, Chelsea, will now have to face Leicester at the Bridge on the final day of the season next Sunday, and Hiddink has confirmed the Blues will congratulate their opposition by forming a guard of honour before the match - and afterwards too.
"Normally when you are not champion yet, there is danger of implosion - they [Leicester] didn’t have that. They managed it very well. They played with commitment without any fear," Hiddink said on Friday.
"That was key when almost everyone announced them as next champion. Ranieri managed it very good in his way, his style, very charming. He got the attention of the team.
"I cannot judge about his work daily, but his performance on TV, he made it relaxed for the team.
"We give them a guard of honour, win, then give them another. That’s a nice scenario."

Mousa Dembele: Tottenham midfielder gets six-game ban for violent conduct

Dembele
Spurs received nine yellow cards against Chelsea, the most by one team in a match in Premier League history
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mousa Dembele has been banned for six games by the Football Association for violent conduct against Chelsea's Diego Costa.
Belgium international Dembele appeared to eye-gouge forward Costa during Spurs' 2-2 draw with Chelsea on Monday.

Referee Mark Clattenburg did not punish the 28-year-old during the game.
Dembele chose not to contest the charge, and will now be unavailable to manager Mauricio Pochettino until Spurs' fifth game of next season.

He has made 29 appearances in the league this season, scoring three goals.
Dembele was one of nine Spurs players booked in the draw at Stamford Bridge - a Premier League record for one team.

10 OF THE MOST TERRIFYING BRIDGES IN THE WORLD

Bridges are found all over the world and provide safe passage for pedestrians and vehicles over water, valleys and roads. While many of us would not think twice about crossing most bridges, there are a few very special exceptions. These are the types of walkways and overpasses that even the bravest souls would struggle to cross. Whether high up in the mountains or balanced precariously across a ravine, the following are 10 of the most terrifying bridges on the planet. Keep reading…. if you dare!

Aiguille Du Midi Bridge. French Alps
The Aiguille Du Midi may be one of the shortest bridges on this list but what it lacks in length it certainly makes up for in height and spectacle. The walkway can be found at the top of the Mount Blanc Massif mountain range in France. In order to reach the bridge, you must first brave a cable car ride from the ski resort of Chamonix, that transports visitors up a terrifying 9,200 ft. It’s not for the faint of heart but if you can manage to conquer the vertigo, you can enjoy breath taking views of a snow-capped Mount Blanc and surrounding mountains.

Hussaini Hanging Bridge. Pakistan
Just one glance at the Hussaini Hanging Bridge, immediately lets you know that you have to be pretty brave (or perhaps stupid) to attempt to cross this rickety old structure. The wooden bridge stretches across the Borit Lake in Pakistan and is known as ‘The world’s most dangerous bridge.’ If the gaping holes between the planks of wood weren’t enough of a warning sign, the sight of the older, collapsed bridge at the side of the current structure is sure to put all but the bravest of souls off.
2

Titlis Cliff Walk. Switzerland
If the thought of standing on top of a ladder makes you wobbly at the knees, you might want to avoid a visit to this terrifying tourist attraction. The Titlis Cliff Walk Bridge is officially the highest suspension bridge in Europe and is located in the Swiss Alps at an impressive 3,000 metres. The bridge opened in 2013 and measures 330 feet long and just 3 feet wide and is said to provide spectacular views across the Alps. The precarious walkway is designed to withstand high winds and snow storms but you might want to think twice before testing that theory out!

Millau Viaduct. France
Just one look at the Millau Viaduct lets you know that this is one impressive structure. The huge bridge was constructed in 2004 and transports vehicles across the Tarn River valley, 1,125 feet below. The bridge helps connect Paris to Montpellier and cost an eye-watering half a billion dollars to build over a period of 3 years. The Millau Viaduct is officially the tallest major road bridge in the world and even beats the Eiffel Tower for height. This is one bridge you definitely want to take care driving across!

Royal Gorge Bridge. Colorado
In terms of both spectacular and terrifying sights, the Royal Gorge Bridge is tough to beat. The bridge can be found in Colorado, USA and stretches across a spectacular ravine, with the Arkansas River some 955 feet below. The bridge was built in 1929 and held the title of the highest bridge in the world until 2001. If the terrifying journey across the bridge doesn’t scare you enough, there is also a theme park built right next to the gorge to really raise the hairs on your neck!

Sidu River Bridge. China
The Sidu River Bridge is another incredible feat of engineering and is officially the world’s highest bridge. The breath taking structure can be found in the Sichuan Basin in China and stands at an impressive 1,640 feet above the Sidu River valley. Crossing the bridge is bound to worry all but the bravest of souls as peeking over the side will reveal the huge drop to the gorge below!

6

Trift Bridge. Switzerland
The Trift Bridge in Switzerland looks like something straight out of an Indiana Jones film and certainly calls for only the bravest of explorers to cross it. The walkway not only stands 330 feet above Lake Triftsee but at 550 feet long, it is also the longest pedestrian-only suspension bridge in the Alps. The Trift may not be the highest bridge on this list but it’s extreme length will mean you will still need nerves of steel to make the long walk across the rickety structure.

7

Vitim River Bridge. Russia
The Vitim Bridge needs little explanation as to why it is considered so terrifying. The old structure stretches across the Vitim River in Russia and features no railings, warped and decaying wood for support. The bridge is also barely wide enough to fit a car on and, just to increase the fear a little further, the water below is often iced over for much of the year. One false move on this bridge and the result is almost a certain icy death!

8

Puente de Ojuela. Mexico
Puente de Ojuela seems the perfect setting for a horror movie. The area was once a thriving mining community but since the ore resources ran out at the beginning of the 20th century, the settlement has turned into a deserted ghost town. The suspension bridge is the only functioning structure that remains in the area and stands at an impressive 984 feet long. The scariest thing of all about this bridge: If you slip and take a fall, no one can hear you scream!

9

Huangshan Walkway. China
Calling the Huangshan Walkway a ‘bridge’ may not be 100% correct but there is no doubting the ‘terrifying’ part of this structure. The mountain walkways can be found in the Yellow Mountains of the southern Anhui province of China and attract tourists and locals alike, due to their stunning views and thrilling paths. The walkways are literally bolted to the side of the mountains, with only a thin railing to stop a sheer drop to the rocks below. What’s even more terrifying is the fact that some parts of the walkways don’t even have the safety of railings and consist of nothing but planks of wood bolted to the mountain with nothing to hold onto but the rock face!

Three feared dead as clashes erupt in Aba

CLQxOP9UcAA6WTw
At least three people have been killed in Aba, Abia State, in clashes that started at the popular Ariaria Market, several witnesses have told PREMIUM TIMES.

The clashes began in the afternoon mostly between Igbo traders and their Hausa counterparts, they said.
One witness said the crisis started after a member of the Hausa community stabbed and killed an Igbo trader who reprimanded him for urinating near his store.

Other Igbo traders rounded the assailant and lynched him, the witness said.
His account could not be independently verified by PREMIUM TIMES.

But other witnesses and residents said news of the incident spread to other parts of the town and a mob gathered and attacked the Hausa community around the abattoir located at Ogbor Hill area of Aba.
“From that point matters degenerated. Soldiers in nearby barrack are shooting and at least one Igbo trader was hit and killed by a bullet,” the witness recounted.
A spokesperson for the Abia State Police, Onyeka Ezekiel, told PREMIUM TIMES over the phone that he had received reports of “pockets of demonstrations”. He however declined to give further details.

“I’m on my way to Aba with the commissioner to see things for ourselves so I cannot tell you the groups involved or if there were casualties until I get there. Call me back in two hours and I will be able to give you more details,” he said

Highlights of 2016 budget as signed by Buhari

PRESIDENT BUHARI PRESENTS 2016 APPROPRATION BILL IN ABUJA
President Muhammadu Buhari has finally signed 2016 Appropriation Bill into law, making it effectively an Act of the National Assembly.

The N6.06 trillion 2016 budget was signed on Friday, ending weeks of disagreement with the National Assembly.

The National Assembly passed the budget on March 23, but the president withheld his assent and returned the document.

The Presidency said the lawmakers added new projects and removed critical items proposed by the administration.

The two arms reconciled controversial figures, and transmitted a clean copy of the budget to the president on Thursday.

Here are highlights of the budget as passed by the National Assembly:
Aggregate expenditure — N6, 060,677,358,227
Statutory transfers – N351, 370,000,000
Debt service – N1, 475,320,000,000
Recurrent expenditure – N2, 646,389,236,196
Capital expenditure – N1, 587,598,122,031
Fiscal deficit – N2, 204,936,925,711.16
Deficit/GDP – 2.14 per cent

The parameters proposed by Mr. Buhari were retained.
Oil price benchmark and crude oil production were left at US38 per barrel and 2.2000mbpd respectively.
Similarly, the exchange was left at N197/USD1.

Tagged “Budget of Change”, Mr. Buhari presented the 2016 Appropriation Bill to joint session of the National Assembly last December, proposing N6.08 trillion as aggregate expenditure, before it was reduced by the lawmakers to N6.06 trillion.

Buhari signs 2016 budget

BB sign 1
President Muhammadu Buhari has signed the the 2016 appropriation Act into law.

Mr. Buhari signed the budget in the presence of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, in his office at the presidential villa Abuja.

Others who witnessed the budget signing ceremony were the national chairman of the governing All Progressives Congress, APC, John Odigie-Oyegun and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal.

The 2016 budget estimates suffered several delays after claims and counter claims from both the legislature and executive arms, each accusing the other of padding the budget.
Mr. Buhari returned the budget to the National Assembly, saying key projects were removed and others not in the estimates he submitted were added.

A meeting was held last week with the leadership of the national assembly after which a committee was formed to look at all “grey areas” and harmonize them in time for the president’s assent.
The National Assembly reportedly returned a “clean” copy of the budget to the president which he finally signed today.

Details of the final copy of the budget is unknown at this time.
